Who we are

Friends of Woodmont Park is a Virginia nonprofit corporation created by and for the residents of the Woodmont neighborhood and surrounding area of North Chesterfield, Virginia. We're a volunteer board of five neighbors, working in partnership with the Woodmont Recreation Association (WRA), which owns the land.

Shared spaces are where a neighborhood becomes a community. Restoring the park means a safer place for kids to play, a gathering spot for events and celebrations, and a point of pride for every household in Woodmont, whether or not you ever pick up a pickleball paddle.

Our application for recognition as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt charitable organization is underway.

The park

Beyond the pool fence sits land that has waited years for some attention: wooded trails running back toward the railroad tracks, the lower parking lot, the old tennis courts, and an open field. With the WRA's blessing, we're taking on the job of caring for these spaces and turning them into a park the whole neighborhood can enjoy.

  1. This fall

Trail maintenance and cleanup, clearing brush and vines from the old tennis courts, tidying the lower parking lot, and tackling the drainage that washes sediment onto the courts.

  2. Next spring

Clearing the field and restoring the old courts into a multi-use space for pickleball, basketball, and gatherings.

  3. Down the road

Bigger ideas like a playground and a field for youth soccer, shaped by what neighbors want most.

How you can help

We're just getting started, and the park will only be as good as the neighbors behind it.

  • Volunteer

Cleanup days, trail work, and event support. Many hands make light work.

  • Lend tools or know-how

Mowers, trimmers, and trailers, or experience with landscaping, drainage, or trail building.

  • Write grants or fundraise

Know your way around a grant application? We'd love your help once our tax-exempt status lands.

  • Donate

We're setting up our accounts now. Once our 501(c)(3) status is approved, gifts will be tax-deductible.

  • Share your ideas

What should this space become? Community input will drive the plans.

Have an idea, a tool to lend, or an afternoon to spare?

Sign up to hear about volunteer days, events, and progress on the park. There's space on the form to send us a note, too.
